Minutemen were early American
patriots willing to defend their homes and country. They have become a
national symbol of America’s
spirit and values. U S History
provides a short history of original Minutemen.
Recently,
we have seen the emergence of a Minutemen social movement. In April of 2005
about 900 ‘original’ Minutemen conducted a civilian border
patrol near Naco, Arizona. This Paul Revere moment sparked the emergence
of other Minutemen organizations, non-Minutemen groups and independent
activists all across America. All have the same basic purpose and goals.
There are three national Minutemen groups that have reached out to form chapters in
various States. The Minuteman
Civil Defense Corps is an Arizona-based group best known for patrolling
the border and building fences. The Minuteman
Project from California
has patrolled the border and now concentrates upon political
rallies and lobbying. Recently, the Patriots Border Alliance
was formed to both patrol the border as well as
engage in inland efforts.
The Rocky Mountain Minutemen is an independent group. Many of our members also belong to the one
of the national organizations.
